Opening Ceremony and First Days Play: The Opening Ceremony of the Tenth European Team Championships took place in glorious sunshine at Ra'anana Bowling Club in Israel. The Club went to great lengths to provide first class facilities for the players and spectators alike and the action soon got under way after an initial welcomes from the President of the Lawn Bowls Association of Israel, Mr Maurice Lavin, the President of the EBU Mr Tzvika Hadar and special guest Mr Zeev Bielski the Mayor of Ra'anana.

Mayorof Ra'anana

It was great to see Germany continue their development as a bowling nation with some fine results in the first days play. Guernsey set the initial pace with consistent results in all disciplines. The standard of play was extremely high even in the intense heat and the players remarked that the excellent green conditions allowed them every opportunity to demonstrate their skills. An appreciative crowd welcomed all the teams and gave great support to all throughout the day but did I detect a slight bias for "Israel".
